Curtain
Styles, Colours and Fabrics
Using made to measure curtains to dress a
window is a great way of creating a comfortable ambience within
your home. It is important when choosing curtains that the
style and colour compliments the existing furnishings. Curtains
are not only functional they are an important part of interior
design. Curtains are the most practical way of blocking out the
daylight entering your room. They also give you total privacy.
They can also be a vibrant focal point to a room.
There are a few aspects to be decided upon
when buying curtains. The look of the curtain can vary
depending on whether it has a Pencil Pleat, Traditional Pinch
Pleats, an Eyelet top or a Tab top. Curtains can be left to
hang straight or can be tied back. The curtains can hang from a
curtain track, or a pole. There could be a valance covering the
top of the curtain.
When choosing colours you should decide on
whether you want a rich and vibrant primary colour say for a
child's bedroom or a kitchen, or a subdued colour suitable for
a bedroom or lounge. Whatever you choose it should harmonise
with existing colours in the room.
Some fabrics will only be suitable in
certain environments. For example a velvet fabric would not be
practical in a kitchen, but would look great in a bedroom.
Popular fabrics for curtains are cotton, chenille, velvet,
jacquard, embroidery and satin.
